On 17 November 2025, the Russian Ministry of Health published the Order No. 669n (hereinafter - the "Order") approving the procedure for healthcare professionals to prescribe dietary supplements when providing medical care to citizens.
According to the provisions of the Order, healthcare professionals are authorized to prescribe registered dietary supplements provided the following conditions are met:
- such dietary supplements are included in the relevant list;
- there are indications for their use, as specified in the list of indications for the use of dietary supplements.
The prescription of dietary supplements will be carried out by the attending physician or, in exceptional cases, by a paramedic (midwife). Information about the prescribed dietary supplement, such as:
- name;
- duration, method, and regimen of use;
- reason for prescription (indications),
will be entered by the healthcare professional into the patient's medical records and provided to the patient or their legal representative in an accessible form. Furthermore, healthcare professionals, upon request from the patient or their legal representative, will be able to issue an extract from the patient's medical records containing information about the prescription of the dietary supplement.
The procedure for prescribing dietary supplements will come into force on 1 March 2026, and will be valid until 1 March 2031.
