Lidings’ Partner Dmitry Gravin Joins The European Criminal Bar Association


Head of the Lidings’ criminal defense practice Dmitry Gravin has joined The European Criminal Bar Association (ECBA) becoming the only member in the network representing the Russian capital.

ECBA is an association of the European criminal defense lawyers – the leading advocates from over 40 countries specializing in criminal defense.  The primary purpose of ECBA is to support development of the criminal defense legislation in Europe, promoting the fundamental rights of persons under criminal investigation, suspects, accused and convicted persons in international criminal defense cases.

Lidings’ partner since 2012 Dmitry heads criminal defense practice of the firm. He has over 25 years of experience as an advocate, an honorable member of the Russian Federal Chambers of Lawyers, member of the Moscow Chamber of Lawyers. Dmitry participated in a number of criminal cases with a high level of publicity, such as "Biruliovsky pogrom", cases of power abuse in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, was involved in cases taken to the highest courts of the country, represented several leading Russian business’ figures.

Among criminal defense cases Dmitry has been recently involved in: protection of the interests of one of the former heads of a major energy company, accused of embezzlement by fraud amounting to circa RUR 1, 2 bln. (p. 4, Art. 159 of the Russian Criminal Code), as a result the client was acquitted of embezzlement episode of RUR 600 mln.; protection of the interests of the head of one of the divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, accused of a particularly large-scale fraud (p. 4, Art. 159 of the Russian Criminal Code) in a preliminary investigation. The client was discharged from a criminal prosecution on the rehabilitating grounds. The client was fully rehabilitated and received a corresponding monetary compensation; protection of the interests of the head of one of the energy companies being a part of the Ministry of Defense, accused of a power abuse (Art. 201 of the Russian Criminal Code). The case was dismissed due to the absence of the body of the crime.
