Lidings Contributes to the Annual Doing Business Research

Lidings partners Andrey Zelenin and Sergey Patrakeev took part in preparation of an analytical review of how easy or difficult it is for a local entrepreneur to open and run business in Russia for the Doing Business rating, held annually by the World Bank Group and the International Finance Corporation providing objective measures of business regulations in 189 economies.

The research methodology is based on a survey of entrepreneurs, legal experts, business consultants, accountants, government officials and other professionals routinely administering or advising on the relevant legal and regulatory requirements each in his jurisdiction.

Partner and head of Lidings dispute resolution practice Andrey Zelenin together with partner heading the firm’s corporate and M&A practice Sergey Patrakeev having conducted a thorough analyses of changes in Russian legislation occurring over the past year that have had significant impact on the legal regulation of doing business in the country, commented on the latest developments in an interview with rating’s representatives.

“It is gratifying to see Russia improve its position in the rating. Legislation and state regulation reforms have its effect. As a law firm providing legal advice to business, including foreign companies, we can see that measures taken by government to reform country’s business environment have a positive effect on the investment climate also, making the Russian market more accessible for foreign investors”, - comments Andrey Zelenin. “We are pleased that many of our colleagues, who have participated in preparation of this review, also noted positive dynamics of the past year in terms of improvement of the legal regulatory sphere, determining conditions of doing business in our country. The fact that Russia has been ranked higher compared to the last year proves this statement. I am sure that continuation of this upward trend in the rating will be an additional argument to invest in Russian economy, and we will be able to see it result in the new interesting projects”, - adds Sergey Patrakeev.

According to 2015 review Doing Business guide ranked Russia 51st moving it from the 62nd position last year.
