Lidings conducts a large-scale road show in China

Lidings’ partner Stepan Guzey and counsel Vadim Konyushkevich took a two-week long (28 February - 11 March 2015) journey to China visiting all of the country’s major industrial and business centers including Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.

During their visit to Hong Kong, Mr. Guzey and Mr. Konyushkevich discussed ongoing and future projects with the firm’s long-standing client – a large investment fund with over US $ 4.6 bln. worth of asset under management. They also held a series of meetings with partner law firms located in Hong Kong.

The first stop on the territory of mainland China was Guangzhou – the political, economic, scientific, and technological center of the southern region of the country, where Lidings’ representatives also held a number of meetings with clients and partner firms. Meeting with the leadership of the leading auto manufacturer was devoted to discussing an ongoing project for the entry of a large automotive company into the Russian market. In the course of another meeting a well-known manufacturer of HVAC equipment instructed Lidings to advise on protection of foreign investments in Russia.

The visit to Shanghai became the busiest part of the trip. In addition to meetings with the firm’s clients and partner entities, Lidings’ representatives attended the annual meeting of the International Lawyers Network (ILN), one of the largest and most well-known global associations of independent national law firms. The meeting was dedicated to the legal regulation of investment in the Asia-Pacific region and brought together representatives of the legal community of the Americas, Europe and Asia. Vadim Konyushkevich made a report on the improvement of Sino-Russian economic relations and the recent legislative initiatives offering Chinese investors preferential opportunities for investment into the Russian economy.

The stay in Beijing began with a meeting in the office of a large local consultant which, jointly with Lidings, advises one of the key structures of JSC "NK" Rosneft" in Russia and continued with visiting the headquarters of one of China's leading law firms, which Lidings has been successfully collaborating with on joint projects since 2010.

In Beijing, Mr. Guzey and Mr. Konyushkevich also held several meetings with potential clients including a large telecommunications holding implementing a wireless mobile networks project in Russia and a major Chinese engineering company carrying out projects in the field of renovation of industrial production facilities, infrastructure, airports and marine ports.

Multiple meetings in China showcase an active interest of the Chinese business towards investing into the Russian economy. Companies from Hong Kong and mainland China are particularly interested in investing in "transparent" real estate, development and infrastructure projects. During the meetings, some of the Chinese lawyers also noted the growth in outbound investment from Russia into China.
