Lidings Offers New Seminars on Conceptual Changes in the Russian Legislation

On April 16, 2015 Lidings brought together its clients and partners to discuss recent changes in Russian law. Representatives of leading international companies attended the two open seminars hosted by the firm at the Intercontinental hotel in Moscow.

List of attendants included in-house experts from several dozens of international enterprises across a wide range of industry sectors including banking and finance, automanufacturing and auto retail, pharmaceuticals, and FMCG. “We continue to offer our clients seminars on specific legal issues that we find to be particularly important in the current legal environment. This format is becoming traditional for us, and it continues to demonstrate its relevance. This is evidenced by today's great attendance, and we are pleased to see such a high response rate to our invitation”, commented Sergey Patrakeev, a partner in the corporate and M&A practice at Lidings who acted as chair and moderator of the event. “Today we consciously decided to choose very concrete and specific topics that are primarily relevant to a number of industries represented by our clients. We’ve discussed the issues of waste management and talked about "localization" of personal data. It is encouraging that these topics seem to have raised a genuine interest in the audience. Our key task at such events is always to encourage dialogue between our colleagues, and all participants today had the opportunity not only to ask questions, but also to contribute their own expertise to the joint discussion”, he added.

In the first part of the event Vadim Konyushkevich, a counsel in the corporate and M&A practice at Lidings made a presentation entitled “Waste management law: concerns everyone? Who pays for what”. Topics discussed included the introduction of new non-tax tax, its collection process, the list of potential payers, difficulties with determining the basis for calculation, declaration and other procedural issues.

Boris Malakhov, associate in the IP practice at Lidings devoted his presentation in the second part of the seminar to “localization” of personal data. He highlighted the recent changes to legislation on personal data in the light of the general course for "localization" in Russia, the requirements of the law and their interpretation by the regulators, as well as possible risks and legal solutions for the affected companies. All aspects of recent legislative innovations were examined from the standpoint of their practical implementation. The speakers offered their recommendations on each of the topics covered and provided detailed answers to questions from the audience.

“We plan to continue offering seminars to clients and partners, even more so since the legislators continue to provide us with topics worthy of discussion”, Sergey Patrakeev noted.
