IFLR1000: Lidings Top Ranked for Banking & Finance and M&A in 2015October 16, 2014
Lidings continues to receive recognition from leading international legal directories as top-notch advisor to foreign businesses in the Russian market. This time the firm has been recommended in key practice areas by International Financial Law Review 1000 – the most reputable professional source in the sphere of corporate law, international banking and finance consulting.
Together with Russian practices of the largest UK and US law firms the ranking recommends Lidings for its banking and finance practice. Recognition of practice team led by partner Dmitry Gravin is based on excellent feedback received from the firm’s clients: “The team has good knowledge in Russian law matters and a quick response time,” says one client of the banking and finance team. “So far, we are completely satisfied with the work they’ve done for us. We’ve considered several firms at the initial stage of the project and made a decision to instruct Lidings for all Russia-related work.”
The ranking highlights some of the firm’s recent representative matters: “This year the firm was busy on a number of matters, including acting as legal counsel to the China Development Bank on the issues of internal coordination of a special purpose loan to be provided to Vnesheconombank (VEB), the legal regulation related to the intended use of the loan facilities, the requirements of the Russian foreign currency control rules and the application of the double tax treaty to the deal”.
The guide also recommends Lidings for corporate and M&A advice in Russia, quoting satisfied clients and outlining key credentials of the team led by partner Sergey Patrakeev: “Lidings, in our experience, is a very active company, which is trying to predict potential problems in the projects in advance and works proactively in addressing these problems,” says one client. “Their staff has a lot of experience and exceptional qualifications.” This year the team welcomed a new recruit in the shape of Alexander Popelyuk who joined in November 2013 as a senior associate from fellow Russian firm. One of the work highlights for the team this year saw it advising Belorusneft, the Belarusian state enterprise, on its acquisition of 100% of the shares of Russian oil producer NK Yangpur. It also assisted two large Chinese car manufacturers on setting up their own production sites in Russia and providing legal support, in terms of the optimisation of contractual schemes, for producing independently made products”.
